We are about to start a NEW  Toastmasters’ year with NEW club officers looking for NEW ways to find NEW members and NEW avenues to retain current members.

Social, but what kind of Social?

Fundamentally speaking, in the digital universe there are two classes of Social websites/apps:

  1. Social Media
  2. Social Networking

BOTH kinds of Social are VITAL to CLUBS!

Some definitions for this discussion:

  • Social Media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into an interactive dialogue.
  • Social Networking, on the other hand, is a web-based or mobile format designed to bring people together who are joined by a common interest or location.

Club marketing has two main objectives:

  1. Retaining members
  2. Attracting new members

Use Social Media & Social Networking to help your club:

  • Project your club image
  • Create member interest
  • Keep members informed
  • Encourage member enthusiasm
  • Reach prospective members

The Social Universe is constantly evolving. Platforms come and go… trends rise and fall… My take-away from this is there are always new opportunities!

However, there are some platforms which are ingrained into the public consciousness and these are the best bets for your club’s Basic Social Presence.

Here is a breakdown of how these platforms perform for clubs.

 Social Media is mostly about a club’s relationship with current members.

 Social Networking’s main function is reaching prospective members.
